Heart Scan
The basic heart screening study evaluates
your risk of coronary artery disease. The scanner images your heart,
and the blood vessels supplying its muscle with blood. It detects the
amount of calcium in the walls of those vessels, and calculates the "calcium
score." A high score for your age group is statistically associated
with increased risk of coronary events in the future.
Lung Cancer
In just one breath hold, very thin sections of your lungs
are imaged. Previous screening methods did not detect lung cancer
in the early
stages. Four out of five lung cancers, when found, were incurable.
Our new scanning methodology finds cancers much earlier, even
as small as
a few millimeters. The majority of cancers found with CT technology
can be
removed if diagnosed in the early stages.
"Virtual" Colonoscopy (selected individuals)*
This CT screening
examination of your colon's lining can detect polyps 1 centimeter or
larger - the ones most likely to be associated with early cancer. An oral
colonic
cleanser is administered in preparation the day before the CT screening
examination. Just before the study, air is instilled in the colon, and
then the scan is done. The test can take the place of conventional fiber
optic scoping of the colon in screening for colon cancer in those individuals
who cannot tolerate such invasive colonoscopy.
